TGISATPIP (Thank Goodness It's Sunday At The Premier Inn Plot)

Sun 30 Jun 1:00pm - 3:00pm

Premier Inn Hotel Car Park (entrance in Ornan Road)
215 Haverstock Hill

In 2011, the Transition Belsize Food Growing group installed raised beds in the corner of the Premier Inn Hotel car park on Ornan Road. The site was and is a huge success. A group of local residents maintain it and harvest food from it. Hotel staff are very proud of it. Hotel guests and passersby visit it. Rainwater is collected from a nearby wall to water it. Food waste is recycled through two wormeries and returned to the site as compost. It’s wonderful example of both Transition and permaculture in practice.

Feel free to join us if you’d like to help out, or to learn about food growing and permaculture, or simply to visit and chat.

We have recently finished building a new raised bed for the site and, so far, we have planted broad beans, onions, rocket, margold, nasturtiums, runner beans and leeks for this year's season.

We are starting an hour earlier than we usually do and one of our members has kindly offered to start by giving us a demonstration of how it is possible to water the plants without watering the volunteers.

We will be bringing along some compost and pots so that we can pot up some of the seedlings that we have been growing in the mini greenhouse. We will need these for the stall we are planning to set up outside Budgens on Saturday 22nd June.

We also plan to do walk to the Royal Free garden, as some of the plants there may need watering.
