Here in Belsize we started by focusing on how to save energy by setting up a Draught Busting Project.
With the end of cheap energy (peak oil) and accelerating climate change there has never been a better time to reduce your energy use and invest in renewable generation.
By draught proofing your home you can:
- substantially reduce the energy and heat lost through windows and doors
- reduce your fuel bills
- help your home become more cosy and warm
In collaboration with Camden Council the Transition Belsize Draught Busting Team run free draught busting workshops to help residents inexpensively draught proof their windows and doors, using tried and tested products that really work! Our workshops are fun, practical, hands on events, held locally.

Energy Efficiency and Renewables
Here are a few things you can do:
- Read your meters regularly
- Change your behaviour
- Change to new appliances
- Replace Halogen bulbs with modern LED bulbs
- Install renewable power
- The Green Deal will help you fund improvements

Prashant Vaze is an environmental economist trying to live a low-carbon life in Kentish Town. So far so good, but he has kids and a hectic job. He will talk about his own experience navigating the choices that confront us all (families, singletons, pensioners) when making decisions about how to keep warm, what to eat, what to buy and how to travel in the era of climate change and economic turmoil. He has worked out the sums and will let us know which choices will make the biggest difference, and which are false savings.
If you want to find out more you can visit his web site at economicalenvironmentalist.co.uk.

Having a fuel efficient house and using renewable energies like solar can save a fortune and make a big dent in your carbon footprint.
On top of this there are big Government incentives to help us get our houses up to 21st Century standards. Clever improvements can also be big earners for home-owners.
JoJu and Transition Primrose Hill are holding an event to familiarise people with some of the opportunities available to them, in particular, the chance to take advantage of the main solar subsidy before it changes in March.
