Belsize Green Fair Volunteers Meeting, Education Group Meetup, Hampstead Film Society, "Fresh", Draught Busting Workshops, Belsize Eco House,

Dear Belsize,

The fourth annual Belsize Green Fair - this year designed as a pop-up urban farm - is on Saturday 24th September on Haverstock Hill. We could use some help with all the fun, games, food and farmyard animals! If you can lend a hand, please come to our Belsize Green Fair Volunteers Meeting at the Washington Pub in England's Lane at 7:30pm on Wednesday 7th September. Ask for Lauren if you don't recognise anyone.

The Transition Belsize Education Group is holding its monthly meeting this Friday 9th September at 9.30am at Chez Nous Cafe on Haverstock Hill. Please do join them if you'd like help to plan the autumn events for their Transition Kids group. Or just go along for a coffee and to find out a bit about Transition.

The Hampstead FIlm Society has two screenings at Hampstead Old Town Hall this month: Italian historical epic "The Leopard" (1963) on Tuesday 13th September at 7pm and  "The Front" (1976), starring Woody Allen, on Tuesday 27th September at 7pm.

This month's Transition Belsize Eco Film will be "Fresh" at 7.30pm on Wednesday 14th September at Hampstead Old Town Hall (on the corner of Belsize Ave and Haverstock Hill). Please note that this is another new venue for us! "Fresh" celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet.

The Transition Belsize Draught Busting team are running a special Draught Busting Training Workshop on Sunday 18th September. This is aimed at giving others the skills and confidence to run their own Draught Busting Workshops, as well as increasing the size of our team of Transition Belsize Draught Busters. The workshop will run from 1pm-4pm. Places are limited. The venue in Camden will be confirmed on booking. To book a place for the workshop please email Sarah Nicholl via

Our Draught Busters will be continuing to run Draught Proofing Workshops for Camden Residents from October onwards in collaboration with Camden Council. They are always looking for hosts so if you would like to offer your home as a venue for a fun, hands-on workshops, and you have wooden framed sash or casement windows, please do let Sarah know via the address.

Open House London takes place this year over the weekend of 17-18 September, and gives you another chance to visit the Belsize Eco House in Belsize Park Gardens, A further 15 Victorian and Edwardian houses that have been refurbished to dramatically reduce their emissions and energy bills will be open for public viewing.

Then of course it's Transition Belsize's biggest event of the year - The Belsize Green Fair on Saturday 24th September on Haverstock Hill. Please do come to our Pop-Up Farm in NW3.

Finally, after nearly five year of sending email newsletters to Belsize I'm signing off. As you may have heard I'm standing as the Green Party candidate in the Highgate by-election on 15th September. Carla Ranicki has very kindly agreed to take over the newsletter and has all sorts of great ideas for jazzing it up! If you have anything you'd like to include in future newsletters, please email her at

It's been a pleasure communicating with you all these last five years. Thanks for listening!

All the best, Alexis
