Modern "Halogen Busting" LED bulbs emit the same equivalent of light as a regular 50w Halogen bulb but use only 6 watts of power and have a 50,000 hour lifetime. Unlike halogen bulbs these bulbs emit a much cleaner light and due to the high quality LED chips used the colour will never differ or gradually fade.
Our first unmitigated success with public food growing sites came at the Premier Inn Hotel in Belsize. It took a year and several hotel managers, but eventually we won the right to build raised beds in a corner of their car park. A group of Transitioners who live in the surrounding streets came together to create a food growing space using permaculture principles. The aim was to inspire residents, hotel staff and guests to grow food and think about sustainability.
Time was when everyone knew how to tell a good story but technology has made couch potatoes of most of us. Fortunately there are still a few gripping storytellers around. On Midsummer's Night (Tuesday 21 June 2011) Transition Belsize held an evening of Transition Tales on Hampstead Heath from 7pm until late. Steph Bradley of the Transition Network joined us to tell of her travels around Britain on foot in search of inspiring stories from Transition Initiatives the length and breadth of this land.
